FFA Members Why are We Here? — Introduction

It is amazing the journey that the Lord places us on sometimes as we go through life. I knew in my heart someday I would return back to my roots in Agricultural Education, but never in a million years did I think it would happen so soon!

As I transition this summer into my new role as the Kansas Agricultural Education Consultant and State FFA Advisor, I’ve been reacquainting myself with ALL things Ag Ed and FFA!

One of my areas of reflection has been ruminating and thinking about our FFA Opening Ceremonies — tucked in the ceremony after the introduction of the officer positions and roles is a powerful question that asks for a full membership response — “FFA Members why are we here?” (Three gavel taps ring across the gathering space and all members rise saying:)

“To practice brotherhood, honor agricultural opportunities and responsibilities, and develop those qualities of leadership which an FFA member should possess.”

Over the next three blog posts we will dive into each of these three aspects declared in the Opening Ceremonies. Often times we recite these words, but give little thought to the actual meaning and impact these words should have on the actions and choices we fulfill as FFA Members, Advisors, and Alumni & Supporters!

I am so exited to be on this journey with you all! It is my hope that through our dive into the rich traditions of our organization, it can serve as an inspiration for lasting impact in our homes, schools, and communities through the value of Agriculture!

Thanks for reading and sharing, may many blessings be poured out for you today!

Take care & Forever Blue, Anthony Meals
